Surgery for aortic aneurysm

Period: 05.01.2017 - 31.01.2017
Protocol entries: 3
Area(s): Heart, Operation

For the January 11, 2017, I have now received the inpatient hospitalization and will be discharged on Jan. 12, barring anything else unforeseen, will undergo thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery. A vascular prosthesis must be inserted into the aorta and a correction may also need to be made to the heart valve. However, I only find out more details the day before the operation, which is also a good thing.

Due to the severity of this surgery, I would like to be admitted to the inpatient program to assist in my healing in the days leading up to or following the surgery. My stay in the clinic will probably be for 10 – 14 days, followed by a 3 week rehab.

Thank you very much. M.R.

There is a history to this case, see“Heart Surgery“.

    Here we go, the surgery

I’m already sitting on a packed suitcase, so to speak. Tomorrow I will now go to the clinic. So far, I’ve been pretty even-keeled and calm. At the moment, however, I’m already getting a little restless. But that is certainly quite normal.

I will ask my son to send you a short information about my health condition this weekend.

Until then, thank you for your efforts.

    Smoothly, wound heals well

My surgery had been delayed another day. I went under the knife on Friday the 13th. The surgery went smoothly and the wound has already healed well. At the moment I am still in a slimmed down intensive care unit and hope to get to the normal ward in the next 1-2 days. Thank you all for caring. After the stay here I will come to a rehab for another 3 weeks. Thanks again and best regards, M.

    Subsequent "good news

    This is M.’s husband speaking:
My wife has been discharged from the university hospital and has been in the hospital since 23. 01. 2017 to REHA. Considering the severity of the surgery, she is doing quite well. With the sisters they have already taken a walk in the spa park (about 500m). So we are in good spirits.
