Case studies – Science

Case studies are single frames. Momentary situations, sometimes observed over a period of time. Their significance must be weighed skeptically and not naively extrapolated. Nevertheless, I personally find incredible motivational power in them.

Furthermore, these narratives and descriptions often remind me that ‘healing’ can be different than I imagine it to be with my limited world of expectations. Reiki works ‘to the highest good’.

There are a total of 222 cases on the Case Studies page. Most entries were originally submitted in German. Today, all were released in English.

Examples

The longest story is the HIV diary; it lasts over 10 years. From the girl with bowl looping we hear regularly since Christmas 2019. 3 weeks ago we received the x-rays with and without cists in the brain of a baby in a 4-generation Reiki family. Many cases have turned out quite differently than hoped; sometimes amazing, some are also very sad.

Dear Reiki students, you are invited to submit your stories to us.

Search function

There are 33 areas in which the cases are divided. And there is a search function where you can enter your own keyword. End-of-life care is one of the topics. There are also a number of notable articles elsewhere on our website.

Scientific database

The value of case studies to science is rather small. Factors such as the placebo effect or the influence of medications, for example, distort the significance of individual observations. For doctors, researchers, sociologists and politicians – or simply for those interested in science – we point to the most important science-database, which currently includes 403 studies.

Holism and spirituality

Reiki works holistically. Colloquially, we speak of ‘body, mind and soul’. The WHO talks about the level of the Physical, Emotions, Intellect, Spirituality and Social.

The science-database hardly addresses spirituality, it focuses mostly on natural sciences; partly including the humanities. Case studies are usually even less categorizable.

As one-sided and limited as pure empiricism may be, as spongy and diffuse can emotions or spiritual insights be considered by the outsider. But all these aspects have a value and are included in the term ‘holism’.

Therefore, in our opinion, it is not necessary to consider Reiki practice as purely therapeutic or as exclusively spiritual. Both have their place.

Submit case studies

Your story should be comprehensive, but brief, describing the condition before the Reiki treatment. Describe the treatments, time frame, and progression. Your interim reports (for example, the incremental improvement or worsening) result in the protocols as you see them in the existing cases. If you have medical certificates or x-rays, all the better. The anonymity of those affected is important to us. The easiest way is to write to us at kontakt@reiki-international.ch

  • Your case studies are really interesting and can give guidance to Reiki therapists on the effectiveness of Reiki to treat a given disease.
    Great job !
Thank you to both of you!
