Courage – essential nutrient for change to the better

The Head of Division in a multinational corporation discovers the value of Reiki. First for herself in her personal life dealing with health and stress. Then she wondered if it could be of benefit to her team. For their personal circumstances, team efficiency, cooperation among colleagues and when dealing with restructuring and anxiety about the future.

She hired a Reiki teacher for a team-event, rented a nice seminar hotel in the country for two days and did not tell anyone what she had on her mind.

On the day, she now stands in front of her team… eyes full of expectations on her. She briefly told everyone what Reiki was to her, how she had treated her Hanseatic, down-to-earth parents with Reiki, how they were sceptical at first and then wanted continues Reiki support.

„For this event, I wanted to present to you something meaningful.“ With these words, she introduced the Reiki Teacher – me – to her team.

If statistics were right, I was just given an opportunity to test their reliability with a small field-study: statistically it is short of 1% of Germany’s population that had been initiated to Reiki. And indeed there were 2 Reiki-people in the group of 28 who outed themselves. Approximately 20% of the population has been in touch with Reiki one way or another and consequently about 5-6 people raised their hands. So far, so good.

They all had studied business management, most in their mid-thirties. Colleagues with clear hierarchical structures. The company is a mover in a competitive in a rather traditional field of activity. After an hour they still sat in their chairs with reserved body-language and sceptical looks in their eyes.

Each individual could freely choose if he or she wanted to be initiated to Reiki. I had agreed with their boss that I would present the contents in such a way that they were of relevance and helpful also to those who were not interested in Reiki. I was ready to include mental training, coaching elements or team-building experiences, all depending on how many of those present would want Reiki.

After 1½ hour I asked for a sign of hand. Except for two people everyone wanted to be attuned to Reiki

Why do I tell the story? Well, dear reader please put yourself in the shoes of the boss lady. What if everyone would have said “No”? The loss of face in front of her staff might have been the least of her problems, as I am sure, you can imagine.

The other side of the coin though, the upside-potential, is a change for the better within the team and in extension for the company – but also for the individual person and his or her family. This woman was obviously prepared to take this risk. I pay the highest possible respect to her. With people like her, the world can change – for the better!
