Back surgery

Period: 18.09.2017 - 03.10.2017
Protocol entries: 2
Area(s): Back, Operation

My mother can no longer sit up, so she is lying down. And when she is lying down, she cannot move her feet, pelvis or upper body by herself. Only her hands still obey her. She has had 4 spine surgeries in the last few months. If someone lifts her into the wheelchair and drives her around, she can do that too, as long as the wheelchair isn’t too wide. She can’t hold on there. She can light igniters, smoking is possible, she cannot light a lighter, she lacks fine motor skills and strength in her fingers. She can’t cut her own food, with the spoon the soup goes down, but she also fluffs it. She is hardly hungry, eats extremely little.

Mentally, she is usually quite fit. Of course, the strong drugs have an effect. She sleeps a lot. She also used to do Reiki, more for herself. Actually, she has hardly any muscles left and no appetite either. The doctors think if she can ever stand again, that would be a huge step. There is no question of walking. I asked her if I should and may request a Reiki emergency chain and she agreed. She was born in 1943.

She is currently in the geriatric ward at the Christoph Doppler Clinic in Salzburg, where she is waiting for a rehabilitation place. There are 2 of these in the whole of Salzburg. The problem is that she is not eligible for other rehab placements because she cannot independently move from her housing to a ward.

    It comes

On day 2 of Emergency Reiki, my mother said “she feels like it’s getting there now”.
From my observation, my mother’s voice sounds more like it belongs to her again. She still had an extremely deep voice in August, which seemed very strange to me about her.

She is well aligned, focused and willing to be on her exercises. She doesn’t really like to talk right now. Last Friday (day 5) the exercises went very easily for her.

AND she just doesn’t express disgust when she eats! That is, she eats more. On my last visit in August, she barely got down 3 to 5 bites of a lunch (soup, main dish, dessert) and then there was always a gesture of disgust. The fact that she eats more now and also feels something like an appetite is quite a lot – thank you very much!

    Final feedback

… spoke with my mother again today on the phone. She said she got up today …. in the scaffolding and pulling herself up on poles, she got upright today after supportive prompting from the therapist…. incredible!

In response to her statement “I can’t do that, I’d fall over”, the therapist said dryly
“I don’t think so, Mrs. S. and if I do, I’ll catch her”… then she pulled herself up ….

She is not very hungry at the moment, and sleeping is not an issue, like a groundhog…
She sounded tired, relieved, and is visibly excited “what else is going on?”

I myself feel strengthened and confirmed, it was and is a good step in the right direction.

    Warmest gratitude, I feel embraced,
    T.
